I've never been much of a "mixed media" kind of gal. I suppose technically some of my paintings fall in this category because I use more than one medium. But, when I think of mixed media, I think of all kind of textures and embellishments. It just isn't my scene. However, a few weeks ago, I stumbled across a whole section of clearance mixed media materials and I just couldn't pass them up. I'm a sucker for packaging. They had glass viles full of glitter and wooden spools full of wire. They were from the Art-C line.
It was kind of fun doing something completely different. I got an old piece of wood from the shop and went crazy. It turned out a little wild. But, it is really cheerful. I wasn't sure what I was going to do with it. We've been working on updating our front porch. It really needed some love. While I was sweeping it off I noticed a little nail and decided that this would be the perfect home for this shiny little piece.
I bet you can guess from this photo what out next project is. Yep, gonna paint that porch.
I'm not sure if I will do something like this again anytime soon but I did enjoy hunting down little tid-bits to add to my painting. I even used part of my onion bag. I do love looking at it when I walk in my front door. It is cheery and when you are trying to make it in the house with two screaming children and an arm full of groceries, it is nice to see something happy.
PS. When we finish, I'll show you the whole porch. I am hoping to have it done by June. In June we will have been in our little house 5 years. F-I-V-E Years! It is kind of sad that it has taken us this long to establish any kind of curb appeal. Better late than never I guess.
