Calling people who know anything about babies!

Okay, I think I have mentioned this before, but I know nothing about babies. Really, I am pretty clueless and Jason is worse than me. A couple years back I volunteered to watch a friend's 6 month old. I actually sent her home with her diaper on backwards. Seriously. I know nothing. So, as you can imagine, putting together a baby register with this lack of information on babies is quite difficult. I know that is it a little early, but my family is throwing us a shower in the beginning of March so I wanted to start compiling a list of baby necessities (I am also a compulsive planner so I need to start early) I would like to emphasize necessities, because our house is small and storage space is limited, that I want to streamline the baby products as much as possible. Also, with the recession, everyone is broke. So here is what I want for those of you who have any experience with children.
  1. What are the few products that you you couldn't live with out (obviously we will have basics like a crib and car seat).
  2. Do you have any product recommendations for basics like car seats and such? Have you seen how many car seats there are to choose from?
If you would like to recommend something you don't want to write in the comments of a public blog, such as nipple cream and breast pumps (oh yeah I went there). You can email me at jaime [at] barksblog [dot] com. The clueless Barks would really appreciate any and all of the advice and info we can get.

  1. Jaime, I may not be a mom but I have practically raised several children. You know I'm always here for you. <3

  2. some kind of exersaucer or stationary play center. Both of my girls had one... both times they were "hand me downs" that just needed a little TLC to make them good as new.
Both girls loved them and it was a great way to keep them entertained once they had control of their upper bodies... I could actually fold laundry or sweep and mop while they played happily!

  3. Cages.

Oh, don't look at the screen like that, Jason would agree with me!

    Right, Jason?

  4. a SWING!!! We couldn't live without it. We have the natural....um, natural something but it is like a little coccoon and rocks either side to side or front to back. Don't tell anyone, but the only way she will sleep at night is in that swing. Eventually we will transfer to the bed.

The best pump if you plan on breastfeeding for awhile and exclusively is the Medela Pump in Style...at Target its the cheapest I could find but still expensive...however one of the most important purchases we made ;).

That's what comes to mind. I'm excited for you =)

  5. RED BULL. I am not kidding! Some form of energy drink do help keep you awake after the baby demanded your attention late at night.
Baby Bag-This is like a tool belt for a man, everything that you need goes into this bag. I seriously think they should call it a baby suitcase
    Crib
    Diapers/Wipes
    Baby bathtub
    Towels
    Swing
    Bouncer
    Car Seat/Stroller
    Baby First Aid kit
    Bottles
Breast Pump (comes in handy (for Jamie, not Jason))
Something that has been great (when Halle turned 3m) was a Bjorn. It is like a baby backpack.

This is all coming from a guy, so I would check other list, I probably forgot something really important, cloths, thermometers and so forth.

    Excited for you guys,
    Dan
